TRAINING & WORKSHOPS: LEAN THINKING

Setup Reduction (1 day)

Description:
Setup reduction is a set of concepts and techniques designed to reduce the non-productive time changing equipment over from producing one product to producing another. Lengthy setup times drive optimization toward a reduced number of setups, larger batch sizes, and, therefore, larger buffering work-in-process inventories and poor process flow and performance. This workshop introduces the tools and techniques of setup reduction

Outline:

  • Lean Thinking fundamentals
  • Flow, inventory, and setup reduction
  • Process analysis and improvement planning
  • Setup reduction methodologies
  • Setup reduction concepts
  • Application examples
  • Associated techniques

Target Audience and Outcomes:
While setup reduction concepts are universal, their application is generally tailored to the shop floor. This workshop is optimized to manufacturing shop floor team members. Company lean practitioners, and supervisors and managers of manufacturing operations will also benefit from this overview of setup reduction techniques.

Notes:
Participants receive a three-ring binder with all presentation slides. A videotape on setup reduction is included. This workshop is best conducted as kickoff training to a facilitated hands-on shop floor implementation.
