TRAINING & WORKSHOPS: LEAN THINKING

Value Stream Mapping for the Lean Office (1 day)

Description:
Not every process lends itself to standard methods of Value Stream Mapping. Some
non-manufacturing business processes are ill-suited to commonly accepted methods
that are widely used today for shop floor processes. This workshop acquaints participants to an alternative method of mapping that is well-suited to sales, administration, engineering, and support processes of the business. ”The Swim Lane Technique” is entirely consistent with Lean Thinking, and has proven to be simple and effective with those who have used it.

Outline:

  • Lean Thinking fundamentals
  • Basic characteristics of manufacturing and non-manufacturing processes
An overview of Value Stream Mapping
  • Swim Lane Mapping step-by-step
  • Example applications of Swim Lane Mapping

Target Audience and Outcomes:
No prior exposure to Lean Thinking is necessary for this workshop, although prior experience with Value Stream Mapping and business process improvement is helpful to establish context. This workshop is appropriate for team leaders or members of improvement teams who will focus on administrative processes of the business. It is appropriate for employees of all levels, from senior leader to shop floor employee. At the conclusion of this event, participants will be able to map simple manufacturing value streams without support.

Notes:
Participants receive a three-ring binder with all presentation slides. Visual examples and a hands-on exercise are included.
